Digestive
Diseases Consultants is pleased to announce a new service that
is available in their Kankakee office. The physicians are offering
a new laboratory service that has the capability to detect the
bacteria that causes the majority of gastric and duodenal ulcers.
Currently, Digestive Diseases Consultants is the only provider
of this service in Kankakee and the surrounding counties.
What
is the PY Test?
Through
a simple, non-invasive breath test called the PY Test, the physician
can analyze a breath sample and immediately detect the harmful
bacteria known as Helicobacter pylori, or H. pylori. The breath
test involves swallowing a small pill and producing a breath
sample. The sample is analyzed within ten minutes in the office
and results can be readily available.

Is
the PY Test the only method of detection?
This
new technology is the easiest and the only non-invasive
method of detection of the H. pylori bacteria. Other methods
of detection include an endoscopy, which involves the insertion
of a small lighted tube that is passed into the stomach via
the mouth. Detection is also possible through a blood test.
Who
can take the PY Test?
Persons
with a past history of ulcer disease or current symptoms suggestive
of ulcer disease should consider evaluation through the H. pylori
breath test.
How
do I make an appointment for the PY Test?
Appointments
are now available for the PY Test and can be made by referral
from a family physician or by calling 815-937-5200. Digestive
Diseases Consultants accepts several insurance plans including
Medicare, Medicaid, and various HMO, PPO and POS plans.
